Overview

UN-Habitat Tehran office drafted a country programme in 2017 for a period of 3 years. The country programme addressed the priorities of the government of the I.R. Iran and following Thematic Focus Areas (TFAs) were provided as key pillars:

TF1: Human Settlements Development

TF2: Resilient Cities

TF3: Environment, Climate Change, and Basic Urban Infrastructure and Services

TF4: Participatory Urban Planning & Design, Governance, and Finance

TF5: Advocacy, Monitoring, Partnership, and Capacity Development

In July 2019, Un-Habitat and GoI entered into negotiations for a transitional period of 2 years (July 2019 ~ July  2021) and the following subjects have been prioritized by the MoRUD considering national challenges: • Developing a Strategic Plan for Deteriorated Urban Fabrics and Informal Settlements;  • Developing a Comprehensive Housing Plan;

  • Developing Comprehensive Law of Urban Planning;
  • Definition of the Quality of Life Standards;
  • Sustainable Municipalities Finance;
  • Optimal Management of Urban Lands;
  • New Towns Development;
  • Comprehensive Construction Management Plan.

Additionally, the UN-Habitat office is supporting the government of I.R. Iran’s fulfillment of objectives as set out in the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2017-2021, the Sixth Five-Year National  Development Plan, as well as UN-Habitat Strategic Plan, the New Urban Agenda (NUA) and SDG goals, particularly Goal 11.
